Sean Henry
Who Am I?

Uppsala Cathedral, 28 May to 30 August 2026

Under the title “Who am I?”, Henry’s powerful figurative sculptures enter into dialogue with the cathedral’s architecture, inviting reflection on identity, presence, and what it means to be human today.

This exhibition of Sean Henry’s figurative sculptures seeks to create a reflective dialogue between the cathedral’s historical past and the present day, inviting us to consider what it means to be human today.

Who Am I? Sean Henry’s sculptures do not offer answers to this question. Instead, his figures create space for reflection and dialogue around human vulnerability, strength, and resilience. Their everyday clothing and body language remind us of ourselves and invite identification.

The sculptures are placed throughout the cathedral and its surrounding grounds, where they enter into dialogue with the cathedral’s continuity and its long, layered history. The figures become bearers of everyone’s right to belong, and, in a more wordless way, of our shared longing to be close to mystery.

Artist Sean Henry, born in 1965, lives and works in Hampshire, United Kingdom. Henry has presented more than 35 solo exhibitions across Europe and the United States. His sculptures are included in museum and public collections in Norway, Sweden, France, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Germany. He has previously exhibited in English cathedrals, including Salisbury Cathedral in 2011 and Ely Cathedral in 2024.
