Peter Hahne has been a heavyweight within Swedish painting since the 80’s. Hahne is, and has always been, faithful to his expression, and his painterly improvisations are built upon a lifelong relationship with color and form. The characteristics of his visual language are the half-monochromatic, layered fields, combined with hints of calligraphic flow. Hahne describes his own most memorable art experiences as being spontaneous and emotional; he paints out of the same spontaneity, with a highly visceral relationship to color. The paintings are what they are, and do not rely upon words or explanations to justify their existence. ”I want to create paintings which are only paintings; they need no translation. Words and interpretations may come later.”
