Rakel & Tekla Bergman Fröberg När pälsen faller till marken, blickar vi vidare

Stockholm, 30.9–5.11  2021

Galleri Andersson/Sandström is happy to present the exhibition När pälsen faller till marken, blickar vi vidare with the twin sisters Rakel and Tekla Bergman Fröberg at Hudiksvallsgatan 4. The exhibition presents sculpture and wood engravings. The two artists meet in the common interest and fascination of the forces of nature, although they differ in execution and technique.

In Tekla Bergman Fröberg’s sculptures, shattered porcelain figurines are joined together with forgotten odds and ends or everyday artefacts. Using clay, she creates visible links between the parts to unify them in new raw and bizarre sculptural objects. Fröberg equates herself with the sculptures and their lost parts repeatedly recreated into fragments that heal together as something new.

“In the sculptural works, I use materials such as wood, porcelain, tape, scrap metal, plastic, furniture, hair, etc. Often it is things that are thrown away in the garbage, forgotten things, lost things, but once loved things. I look for lost sentences and languages and give things new life. I am inspired by dreams and nightmares and parallel states. I am fascinated by how fragile most things are, both some material but also life in general.”

Tekla Bergman Fröberg

Rakel Bergman Fröberg’s work is based on processing of memories, stories, existences and is interested in portals between different dimensions, life and the afterlife. Her techniques are varied but she often returns to wood engraving. In her search for the fundamentals, she carves her way deep into the wood that comes to life when the cracks appear. The motifs form self-portraits and you can see the wooden surfaces as pages from diaries where memories and deceased souls come to life.

“I work constantly and continuously to try to make what is not visible visible, through wood engraving, drawing, graphics, painting, photography, sculpture, text and video. I am interested in charged states, relationships and the physical distances that arise between both huma ns and animals in these situations. Memories, positions, behaviors, balance. A kind of investigation of all kinds, constantly ongoing, power games. “
